Kate Beckinsale and Theo James in an interview for ComingSoon.net:

Kate Beckinsale’s badass vampire Selene is back in Underworld: Blood Wars when the latest installment of the vampires vs. werewolves franchise hits U.S. theaters on Friday, January 6.

In Blood Wars, Selene is fending off both the Lycan clan and the vampire faction that betrayed her. Among the cast that’s joined the franchise with the new movie is Tobias Menzies (Outlander), as new Lycan leader Marius, and Lara Pulver (Sherlock), who plays power-thirsty and fashion-forward vampire Semira.

It’s been over 13 years since Beckinsale first played Selene in Underworld — watch our video interview below to hear why she decided to bring the heroine to the screen for a fifth time and why co-star Theo James contends that Beckinsale is “the core of the franchise,” though previous reports suggested James’ character David would be taking the reins as the center of a fifth film. The two actors also talk about how director Anna Foerster brought a Gothic aesthetic back to the franchise, and James discusses how Underworld and Divergent fans compare.
